The nerve is closely connected to the stomach and diaphragm which is the main reason why the irritation results in hiccups.

Unpleasant experience is most commonly the major reason why memory loss happens. For instance, if certain event left you hurt or upset, the brain deletes it from your memory in order to prevent it from being remembered once again.
