Foods that should not be stored in the refrigerator

Foods that should not be stored in the refrigerator
Contrary to what is generally believed, tomatoes, eggs or basil should not be kept in the refrigerator. Cold storage of a food can increase its life, but what can this life extension of a fruit or a vegetable bring you if the food is no longer good for consumption after refrigeration?

The cold can alter the “structure” of a food, damaging its texture, consistency and, therefore, taste. To avoid mistakes, a single rule should be kept in mind: foods that are not kept cold in supermarkets should not be kept in the refrigerator at home.
Here’s a list of ten foods that should be kept at room temperature:

Tomatoes
It is a myth that tomatoes that are kept cold will last longer. In the refrigerator, they will lose their taste and become crisp, soft, juicy. Tomatoes must be stored in the house and consumed before they become soft, not more than 5 days after they have been harvested.

Bread
If kept in the refrigerator it will dry out, harden and will not be tender anymore. To extend its shelf life, it can be put in a paper bag or in a wooden box and kept in the pantry, away from sunlight.
Chocolate

When kept in the refrigerator, chocolate will develop a fine whiteness, as its fat comes to the surface. It can still be consumed, only it may lose some of its taste. Chocolate is kept at room temperature, but away from sun and heat.
Cucumbers

At low temperatures, the cucumber peel will soften and they will lose their taste. It is best to store them in a box, in the pantry, away from the light.
Basil
This plant, if kept in the refrigerator, will absorb all the odors inside and will lose its taste. Basil is best kept in a darkened room, in a cool place. The same is true for green parsley. It is best kept in a glass of water.
Potatoes
They are stored in the house and for a few weeks they will retain their properties. It is not recommended to store them in the refrigerator, as the starch turns into sugar, which leads to a change in taste and texture. However, new potatoes can be kept in the refrigerator for two days.
Onion
If it is cold it will soften and in a few days it will mold. It is best stored in the house, away from light. The same is true for garlic. It must be stored in cotton cloth sachets.

Coffee
If kept at low temperatures, it will lose its flavor and taste, absorbing at the same time the odors in the refrigerator. Coffee must be kept in a tightly sealed box.
Melons
A cold melon is very tasty and refreshing, but its taste will be even more intense if it is not kept in the refrigerator. To preserve the whole flavor of this fruit, it is best to leave it outside or at room temperature, so the melon will keep its sweet taste and all the antioxidant qualities.
Bananas
These in no way must be kept in the refrigerator, not only because they are altering their taste but also because they will immediately become black.
